First Meeting/Second Book
(This post was also emailed to the group)
Hi Everyone!
We had a nice meeting on the 26th at Sonja’s downtown - made memorable by a couple of wonderful guests who had a special connection to our book, “On the Road” by Jack Kerouac. Joining us were Myra Borshoff, who works for Jim Irsay, owner not only of the Indianapolis Colts but also Kerouac’s original manuscript for “On the Road” and Jim Canary, a conservator at the Lilly Library in Bloomington, who is the ‘keeper’ of the manuscript and travels with it when it is taken to be exhibited around the world. Both Myra and Jim kept us spellbound with their tales of first-hand experience with the manuscript and the world of Kerouac fans. Jim even invited us to come down to the library sometime and view the “On the Road” (or any other manuscripts they have which we are interested in). A future road trip for the club would be a wonderful idea, I think.

Our first meeting attendees: Kathleen, Jim, Kim, Myra, Jay, Dale (on phone!), Jan. Sonja took the picture; Kim is holding the paddle used at the Auction where Jim Irssay purchased the manuscript.
Next order of business is picking our next book. For this, we need to look at our “Bookshelf” - on which only 6 books currently reside. Now, at our meeting Thursday, those who hadn’t yet put books on the shelf promised J they would do so soon. Kim (who has intermittent internet access) told me verbally of one of her additions and it is listed below. Also, Dale replaced “On the Road” with a new book, but it is only on my work email, so I’ll have to forward that info to the blog later.
