No big deal, but I just noticed we have "The Turn of the Screw" author as Thomas Hardy. It was written by Henry James. Although Thomas Hardy is an interesting writer. "The Return of the Native" is on my top 20(?) list.

Does anyone find any similarities between To the Lighthouse and Pride and Prejudice? I admit I'm probably one of a handful of men who have ever read Pride and Prejudice, and one of fewer men who actually liked it. I guess it comes from living in a predominantly female household and having a wife and daughter who think P&P is one of the greatest stories ever told.

Anyway, I'm only about a third of the way through To the Lighthouse, but so far there seems to be a strong resemblance. I think it has something to do with how subtle it seems to be.

Thanks for pointing that out, Dale. I've actually read Turn of the Screw and should know Thomas Hardy didn't write it(!) Presumably reading Kerouac's "Dr. Sax" has so addled my brain I don't know what I'm doing...

I have found To the Lighthouse to be pretty tough going so far (I'm to about page 50)- much more so than Pride and Prejudice was to read. (I too am in the 'handful of men' who read and liked P&P.)

Return of the Native is definitely one of my all time favorites as well. Did you see the movie adaptation of about 10-12 years ago starring a young Catherine Zeta-Jones? Excellent. She was a perfect Eustachia Vye...

Sonja, glad you put Jimmy Buffet's book back on the shelf. I think variety is a good thing. And we seem to have a good variety of books to choose from!

Has anyone listened to the audio version of this book? I know Kim listens to audio books.

For some reason, I think this book (To the Lighthouse) would be really cool to listen to. The writing is kind of lyrical and poetic (not exactly alike, but maybe some similarities to Jack Kerouac's writing).

If you enjoy reading The Innocent Man as I did, may I suggest reading the companion book to it. Here is something I wrote about it: Who And Where Is Dennis Fritz, You say after reading John Grisham's Wonderful Book "The Innocent man", Grisham's First non-fiction book. The Other Innocent Man hardly mentioned in "The Innocent Man" has his own compelling and fascinating story to tell in "Journey Toward Justice". John Grisham endorsed Dennis Fritz's Book on the Front Cover. Dennis Fritz wrote his Book Published by Seven Locks Press, to bring awareness about False Convictions, and The Death Penalty. "Journey Toward Justice" is a testimony to the Triumph of the Human Spirit and is a Stunning and Shocking Memoir. Dennis Fritz was wrongfully convicted of murder after a swift trail. The only thing that saved him from the Death Penalty was a lone vote from a juror. "The Innocent Man" by John Grisham is all about Ronnie Williamson, Dennis Fritz's was his co-defendant. Ronnie Williamson was sentenced to the Death Penalty. Both were exonerated after spending 12 years in prison. Both Freed by a simple DNA test, The real killer was one of the Prosecution's Key Witness. John Grisham's "The Innocent Man" tells half the story. Dennis Fritz's Story needs to be heard. Read about how he wrote hundreds of letters and appellate briefs in his own defense and immersed himself in an intense study of law. He was a school teacher and a ordinary man from Ada Oklahoma, whose wife was brutally murdered in 1975. On May 8, 1987 while raising his young daughter alone, he was put under arrest and on his way to jail on charges of rape and murder. Since then, it has been a long hard road filled with twist and turns. Dennis Fritz is now on his "Journey Toward Justice". He never blamed the Lord and soley relied on his faith in God to make it through. He waited for God's time and never gave up.

The Red and The Black - I haven't had a lot of time to read so haven't gotten very far in this book yet. It seems that everytime I start to get into it and get on a grove and have the characters straight, something comes up and I have to stop and don't get back to it for several days. Then I'm back at trying to get the characters straight next time I start reading. How's everyone else doing?????

Unfortunately, I haven't gotten into very far yet. In fact, I'm way behind schedule!

The Cincinnati Public Library's "On the Same Page" book is "The Joy Luck Club" by Amy Tan. This is the equivalent of Indy's One Book, One City. Feel free to add it or not. I've seen the movie (and liked it). But it's not a book I probably would have picked on my own.
